Lockhart River Dry Season Bush Tucker Production - Kuyulu Ngampulungku Mayi

Late in 2006, HITnet and Royal Flying Doctors services Queensland teamed together to fulfil a request from the Lockhart River community to make a Bush Tucker documentary - "Kuyulu Ngampulungku Mayi". Early 2007 the wet season filming of this production took place, and in September 2007 the final dry season filming took place. The processes on how we engage and respect community and cultural protocols can be viewed in our ComPack (see below). Whilst filming the dry season production we also recorded "the making of" which in the near future will be available to view through this website or sent by request.

The final Lockhart River Bush Tucker production is currently in post production and will be rolled out to our kiosk network early 2008.

Frame Of Mind - Mental Health Awareness

A Queensland Health funded program, Frame of Mind is aimed at raising mental health awareness of generalist non-clinical health staff and other interested community members within selected Cape York communities. Frame of Mind will deliver parts of the nationally accredited Mental Health First Aid course with the aid of an artistic talent, with the aim to leave an interactive product behind after each workshop on the touchscreens within community for all to see. The project is targeted towards removing the stigma surrounding mental health disorders.

Smoking Animation - Granny, why don't smoke?

This animation was made towards the early half of 2007 in which we converted a static / photo book into an animation. The animation is about a granny talking to a group of children about the impacts that tobacco has had on her, her family and her community. This production or module as we refer to in HITnet will be located on every one of our touchscreens kiosks nationally within the coming months. To find out where out kiosks are currently located please click here.

National Suicide Prevention Strategy - Healing Spirits - Bularu Yealamucka

The NSPS and HITnet has provided the opportunity for Yarrabah to tell their story to other communities and groups and create a culturally safe environment for the target communities to collectively define, commit to, and engage in their own change process.

Specifically the result was to enhance the capacity and to equip participating communities with tools and pathways to promote a foundation of resilience, replacing self-harm and suicide as an option, 'solution' and communication with positive life promoting skills that facilitate young peoples' exercise of healthful choices and control of destiny.

Healing Spirits - Bularu Yealamucka is now in post production and will be available on our network of touchscreens in early 2008.

Community Stories

Community stories are good health stories direct from communities around Australia. Gilbert Jack, an artist from Pormpuraaw, has a history of mental health illness and he comes through his grief by delving deep into his artwork. Community stories are feel good stories about particular health issues in community.

ComPack

When HITnet engages with a community or organisation to fulfil a need by community in regards to new media production, HITnet always ensures cultural and community protocols are adhered to. For example what are HITnet to do if an elder passes away who is in one of the productions; these terms and conditions are negotiated with elders and community members. A copy of our ComPack is available for you to download below.

Community Training - Western Australia

As all content comes from community and is created by community, HITnet is aimed at empowering community members on the ground with the skills necessary to create their own local content. Later this year HITnet will be embarking on a WA roadtrip providing necessary content creation skills such as digital photography, creation of photo docos and short movies, and small graphic design components. This will ensure that community create beautiful content that they can be proud of and in turn upload to our network of kiosks for all of Australia to see.
